Vairotsana, the great Tibetan lotsawa

Lotsawa* School is a website for students of Tibetan Buddhism. It is a virtual school for those who are interested in training to become translators or 'lotsawas' and a source of reference material for all.

It includes resources to help students learn, as well as news from the world of Tibetan translation, interviews with established translators and more.

*Lotsawa (lo-tsā-ba) n. Title used for the native Tibetan translators who worked together with Indian scholars (or panditas) to translate the major buddhist texts into Tibetan from Sanskrit and other Asian languages. From Skt. locchava, literally ‘bilingual’ or ‘eyes of the world.’ See also pandita.
